“Every flagstone step in Bhujung carries the footprints of generations.”
Exploring Bhujung Citadel: Stone Alleyways & Ancestral Trails
Clustered stone houses and terraced slopes of Bhujung village in Lamjung.

Tucked deep within a dramatic amphitheatre of cliffs and terraced hillsides beyond Ghalegaun lies Bhujung — the largest compact Gurung settlement in Lamjung District. With nearly four hundred closely clustered stone-and-slate homes linked by labyrinthine flagstone steps, Bhujung feels like an ancient mountain citadel untouched by time.

01. A Living Citadel of Stone

Built on a steep hillside at 1,600 meters overlooking the Midim Khola valley, Bhujung’s architecture reflects centuries of communal planning, with shared courtyards, water spouts, and grain mills integrated seamlessly into the village layout.

02. The Tradition of Wild Cliff Honey Hunting

Bhujung is world-famous for its daring ancestral honey hunters, who scale sheer limestone cliffs on hand-twisted bamboo rope ladders twice a year to harvest wild Apis laboriosa cliff honey — a sacred ritual preceded by prayers to the cliff spirits.
